SEGA and representatives of Bulgarians living abroad will work together towards a pilot implementation of a remote e-voting system

SEGA and representatives of Bulgarians living abroad will work together towards a pilot implementation of a remote e-voting system

The system should ensure confidentiality and integrity of the vote, and operate to the highest cyber-security standards

The State e-Government Agency (SEGA), the Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria Mrs. Maya Manolova and representatives of Bulgarian nationals living abroad have agreed to set up a working group the task of which will be to support the project ‘Development and Implementation of a Pilot e-Voting System’. SEGA representatives presented the project activities completed to date, the changes of the legal framework and the key challenges to the successful implementation of the project. Representatives of Bulgarian communities who live and work abroad complained about being unable to exercise their voting rights by means of a remote e-vote system. They recommended stronger commitment by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) to the project, whose beneficiary is SEGA, and confirmed their willingness to actively contribute to the working group by providing expertise and advice throughout the implementation of the project. The overarching objective is to create a fully functional remote e-voting system, which is a) trusted by citizens; b) capable to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of the vote, and c) compliant with the highest cyber-security standards.
