The Electronic Identification Directorate shall provide support to the Chairperson of State e-Government Agency in implementing the state policy in the field of trust services and electronic identification. The Directorate shall make proposals related to the sectors using electronic authentication, by carrying out an approval procedure in cooperation with the Commission for Personal Data Protection; it shall participate in elaborating regulatory documents drafts, related to the Electronic Identification Act (EIA).

The Electronic Authentication Directorate shall provide cooperation, pursuant to art. 12, para. 5 and 6 of Regulation (EU) No 910/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 July 2014 on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market and repealing Directive 1999/93/EC and shall implement the acts and actions conferred pursuant to Regulation (EU) No 910/2014.

The Directorate shall coordinate the policy related to certification and trust services across the administration; it shall coordinate and assure control on the activities related to the use of electronic authentication; it shall establish and maintain a National Centre for Electronic Identification (Identity Provider) and shall perform activities related to electronic authentication pursuant to the Electronic Identification Act and others.
